Few among the Nords command as much respect as Sedric Berrada, Lord of Lórieth. No noble would admit it but they fear and envy him. He rose from lowly swordbearer to the most powerful Lord in Velanir in under a decade and allied himself with fearsome powers. The Berrada family, ferocious offsprings of Pelataine exiles are not to be taken lightly.
Lord Sedric rose to prominence following the War in the Woods twenty years ago. It was not the war itself which propelled his rise but rather the difficulty of settling the conflict. As his family fought on the losing side, the most Sedric could look forward to was being shamed and stripped of rank.
In a risky gamble he gathered old comrades and roused everyone who was unsatisfied with the war's outcome and took to the woods. For well over a year he was barely more than a mere bandit but it was during this time he earned the name "Black Bear" its infamy.
By exploiting the fractious nature of Velanir he played the mighty lords against each other. Through trickery Sedric conquered the castle of Lórieth, the strongest bastion of his enemies.
Impressed by Lord Sedric's cunning and determination, Yirilen Byelweril instead sought to make an ally of the mighty Black Bear. The Velaniri lords dared not anger the largest duchy in the Nordlands and conceded to recognize Sedric Berrada as Lord of Lórieth. In exchange, hostilities ceased and things settled back to their usual pace.
Lórieth has since been one of the strongest and most stable lordships in the land.
And all his accomplishments will have been for naught if his children, his only pride in life couldn't carry on his legacy.<< Back
